Triptorelin

GnRH agonist for prostate cancer.

What it is

Triptorelin (Trelstar) is a synthetic GnRH agonist FDA-approved for advanced prostate cancer. It is structurally similar to leuprolide and produces equivalent clinical effects through GnRH receptor desensitization and downregulation.

Mechanism of action

Same as leuprolide — initial gonadotropin flare followed by sustained suppression of LH/FSH release and consequent suppression of gonadal sex hormone production.

Approved indications

Advanced prostate cancer requiring medical castration. Used outside the US for additional indications including endometriosis and breast cancer.
