Cetrorelix
GnRH antagonist for IVF protocols.
What it is
Cetrorelix (Cetrotide) is a synthetic GnRH antagonist FDA-approved for prevention of premature LH surges in women undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation for IVF and other assisted reproduction protocols.
Mechanism of action
Unlike GnRH agonists (which initially stimulate then suppress through desensitization), cetrorelix is a direct GnRH receptor antagonist that immediately suppresses LH/FSH release without initial flare. This makes it useful in IVF protocols where rapid suppression is needed without the multi-week downregulation required with agonists.
Approved indications
Inhibition of premature LH surges in women undergoing controlled ovarian stimulation.
