What is GHK-Cu

A copper-binding tripeptide used topically.

GHK-Cu is a small naturally occurring peptide — glycyl-L-histidyl-L-lysine — that binds copper ion with high affinity. First isolated from human plasma in 1973, it has been studied mostly in laboratory and animal research and in small studies of topical cosmetic products. Plasma GHK-Cu levels decline with age — from roughly 200 ng/mL in young adults to about 80 ng/mL by age 60; what that means clinically is not established.

At The Tide, GHK-Cu is used topically only, for skin and hair concerns. Small published studies exist; benefit has not been established in well-controlled trials.

GHK-Cu is not FDA-approved as a drug. We do not offer injectable GHK-Cu.

How We Use It

Two topical uses of GHK-Cu.

At The Tide, GHK-Cu is used topically in two contexts. In both, the human evidence is limited.

Skin

Skin remodeling and repair (topical)

Small studies of topical cosmetic formulations containing GHK-Cu have been published; benefit has not been established in well-controlled trials. May be discussed as part of a skincare routine.

Evidence: Limited · Small studies of cosmetic formulations
Hair

Hair quality and density (topical)

Small studies of formulations combining GHK-Cu with other ingredients have been published; benefit has not been established. FDA-approved hair loss treatment, such as 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, is evaluated separately.

Evidence: Limited · Small studies; not established
Real Care

Foundations come first. GHK-Cu doesn’t replace them.

For skin and hair, a well-built routine comes first — GHK-Cu is not a stand-alone fix.

The Foundation

The routine is the foundation.

If GHK-Cu is used, it is one part of a thoughtful regimen — not a standalone solution. Sleep matters. Hydration matters. UV protection matters. So does the rest of your routine.

  • Sleep and stress management — both affect skin and hair quality directly
  • UV protection (for skin applications) — the single biggest variable for skin aging
  • Coordination with your existing dermatology or aesthetic care
  • For hair: evaluation for FDA-approved options such as finasteride

Realistic Expectations

What GHK-Cu can — and can’t — do.

Most GHK-Cu research is laboratory, animal, or small cosmetic studies. Here’s the honest version.

What to know going in

  • Small studies of topical cosmetic formulations have been published; benefit in people has not been established
  • It is used topically only at The Tide
  • Skin irritation has been reported with topical products

What it can’t do

  • Replace UV protection, sleep, or basic skincare fundamentals
  • Reverse advanced photoaging or replace results from procedural intervention
  • Replace evaluation for FDA-approved hair loss treatment
  • Work for everyone — response varies
  • Be approved by the FDA — it is not an FDA-approved drug
