Argireline

Topical muscle-relaxing cosmetic peptide.

What it is

Argireline (acetyl hexapeptide-8, also called acetyl hexapeptide-3) is a synthetic six-amino-acid cosmetic peptide marketed as a topical alternative to botulinum toxin for fine lines and wrinkles. It is widely incorporated into “anti-aging” skincare products.

Mechanism of action

Argireline is hypothesized to inhibit catecholamine release at neuromuscular junctions through interference with SNARE protein complex formation. The proposed effect is reduced facial muscle contraction with topical application, potentially reducing the appearance of dynamic wrinkles. The actual clinical effect is significantly smaller than that of intramuscular botulinum toxin.

Use as cosmetic ingredient

Formulated into topical skincare products at typical concentrations of 5–10%. Available widely as cosmetic products.

Why this is out of scope at The Tide

Argireline is a cosmetic skincare ingredient appropriately addressed through dermatology, aesthetic medicine, or appropriate skincare retail channels. The Tide does not provide cosmetic skincare services or product recommendations.
